Scholars Gateway

The Kuppuswami Sastri Research Institute provides ample opportunities for scholars who are interested in higher studies. It is affiliated to the University of Madras, for M.Phil and Ph.D (both part-time and full-time) in Sanskrit.

The basic qualification to enter into Post-graduate research in Sanskrit is that the candidate should possess M.A. in Sanskrit (or equivalent degree recognized by the University of Madras) with a minimum 55% in the qualifying examination.

Foreign scholars

The Institute also welcome scholars from any university from foreign countries for pursuing their studies in Sanskrit and Indology. It conducts classes starting from basics of Sanskrit grammar, language, literature, Indian Philosophy, religious studies, studies in Vedic and classical literature, epics, yoga and so on. It may be noted that hundreds of scholars from different parts of the world who had been affiliated with us were taught and guided in their respective fields of study.

The foreign scholars can apply to us and once they receive admission from us they can apply for visa to enable them to conduct their studies here.

Indian Scholars – Traditional Study:

       Traditional scholars of great merit were given junior’/senior research scholarships by the Govt. of India through the Central Sanskrit Board/Rashtriya Sansktit Sansthan. Foreign Scholars

From 1960 there has been a regular inflow of  scholars from different parts of the world. This included Fellows from the American Institute of Indian Studies, Indo-Canadian Institute, Fulbright and Smithsonian Fellows etc.

They all worked under the general supervision of Dr.V. Raghavan till his demise in 1979 and also under Dr.S.S.Janaki from 1971. The Institute provided facilities to the foreign scholars to meet other workers in the field and hold discussions with them in their respective subjects, as also to learn Sanskrit and study specific texts.
